To provide clear goals and motivate our young students to consistently perform at their absolute highest potential, we utilize a powerful two-part recognition system: our unique,

character-focused colored accomplishment stripes, and the technical belt progression recognized worldwide.

Part I: 🌟 Rewarding Character – Our Unique Accomplishment Stripe System

While traditional BJJ tracks technical skill, our system goes “Beyond the Belt” to celebrate excellence in all areas of a child’s life: on the mats, at school, and at home. We have created the most unique and comprehensive accomplishment stripe system in the martial arts world. These highly sought-after colored stripes are awarded for specific, character-building achievements:

These color accomplishment stripes are an incredible source of motivation, encouraging attributes like responsibility, academic focus, and respect, molding students into well-rounded, confident young individuals.

Part II: 🥋 The Path to Blue Belt – Understanding the Renzo Gracie DFW Ranking System

Alongside the character stripes, students progress through the technical ranks. The Renzo

Gracie DFW Kids Program uses a structured system that consistently recognizes progress from ages 4 up to 15.

The Renzo Gracie DFW Kids Belt Progression (Ages 4-15)

Our system features five primary belt colors after the initial White Belt. To provide frequent milestones, these colored belts are broken down into three tiers (White-Stripe, Solid Color, and Black-Stripe) before a student moves to the next color.

White	Solid White Belt	None (The Starting Point)	Fundamentals, self-control, and the core positions of Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Gray	Gray/White, Solid Gray, Gray/Black	4–15 Years Old	Consistency in training, basic escapes, and simple submissions/sweeps.
Yellow	Yellow/White, Solid Yellow, Yellow/Black	7–15 Years Old	Refining technique, developing flow, and applying learned moves in live training (rolling).
Orange	Orange/White, Solid Orange, Orange/Black	10–15 Years Old	Advanced concepts, intricate transitions, and developing a personal, strategic approach to the art.
Green	Green/White, Solid Green, Green/Black	13–15 Years Old	Maturity, Leadership, and Technical Mastery. The highest rank before the adult belts.

Stripes: Technical Milestones

Students earn four white stripes on their belts to mark their technical and character progress toward the next belt tier. This clear, sequential progression ensures that every rank is truly earned through discipline, effort, and time on the mat.

The Transition to the Adult System

The journey in the Renzo Gracie DFW Kids Program culminates at age 16, where students transition to the Adult Belt System, starting with the Adult Blue Belt. Our Green Belt students are particularly well-prepared for this transition, possessing the maturity and technical mastery needed for the adult ranks.
